Beating the treadmill
Once again today I beat the dreaded treadmill. After starting my third 24 hr. shift in a row, I decided I had to get moving and get some training miles in. With the Ipod cranked up I thought that I would try covering up the mileage counter. It worked! In no time I had plodded out 5 miles with a minimum of boredom. And I did it during rush hour. For fifty golden minutes I was left alone to tread obediently. It had started raining earlier in the afternoon and I knew the car accidents would be coming. They did, in the middle of dinner and into the evening. But I was complete. My day was made. I will sleep without runners guilt tonight.

Liar, Liar
Somehow by blogging my stuff I can get motivated and disciplined and become real. Let me tell you a little something about me. I'm a con man. I've made a habit of fooling and lying to myself. The past several years I've been telling myself that I am an ULTRARUNNER! I can run long distances that most people don't like to drive. I have been able to get away with it until this year. Oh sure, I ran 150 miles through the desert of Morocco (turning my feet into hamburger) and completed several 50 milers and 50 k's. Finishing marathons with little or no training was a fun (?) challenge. Something seems to have changed. Along with those accomplishments something else has skewed the picture. TIME, AGE, and ACCIDENTS!
I now have to train to do the races that I want to do and training takes time.
